Mason

In the News: Hurricane Irene hit the East Coast over the weekend.  We were lucky not to get a single drop of rain from it!
Mason got his 5th tooth today (his upper middle left)!  Mya started her first day of school today and Mason and I walked over to pick her up...it was a beautiful day today!!  I was watching TV this morning and Mason was playing around, and the next thing I knew I couldn't find him.  He was all the way upstairs!!!  Yikes!! Thank the Lord he didn't fall down them.  He moves so quickly!!  He will take a few steps on his own, but does not walk yet.  Gosh, he's so huge!!  He wears a size 6 shoe!

Mason's 4th tooth came in today...his right Dracula tooth!  So now he just has fangs!!

In the News: The Casey Anthony Trial verdict was yesterday!  After weeks of watching nothing but HLN, I was able to pull myself away from it all this morning after the shocking NOT-GUILTY verdict yesterday! Mom and Dad were here.  We had pulled into the drive thru at McDonald's to get ice cream when I got a text message--a Tweet that the jury had reached a verdict!  I had HLN on the radio (XM) and they announced it too!  So, I quickly pulled out of McDs (ice cream had to wait!) and headed home to watch it.  Wow, shocking.....not guilty.

Mason has had a cough for almost a month, poor guy!!!  So that has made for more nightime awakenings!  A week or so ago, he started standing up and getting around the furniture.  He does not take good naps, unless he cuddles up with Daddy, where they can nap together!!!  He's so active, it's hard to keep up with him during the day!  He gets frustrated when he's not constantly moving, so I have to keep moving him from task to task.  He LOVES being outside in the stroller!  5:00 in the evening is my most challenging time...by then, I'm usually exhausted, and knowing that Jim won't be home for another hour and a half makes it tough.  That's when I've been taking him for a short walk or circle him around the driveway!!!  He may only sleep for 20 minutes, but it gives me time to make dinner.  We're on the go so often, that it's probably messing up any sort of schedule we "should" have!  He goes to the pediatrician on July 5th, so we will soon see his weight and height.  He takes about 3 bottles per day and eats solids (he loves anything!!!) 3 times a day too.  He "baby talks" a lot but I haven't heard a real word yet.  I think Mya's first words were hi and bye....I'm hoping Mason's will be Mommy, but I'm not getting my hopes up!!!!!

Well, Mason's sleep schedule has become challenging!!  Jim was gone for 10 days, and I thought I was going to die during that time.....Mason was basically sleeping a total of about 20-30 minutes during the day!  He sleeps from about 7:30 until 5:30 or 6:00 during the night, but it made for difficult days.  The hardest part is that he just wants to go, go, go, so I can't keep him contained while I attempt to get stuff done!!  My wrists, hands, and back are KILLING me from lifting his 23+ pound body!!!!  Thankfully, Jim got home on Wednesday, and has been off work ever since.  Otherwise, I would have hired help!!

He started clapping today!!  He's very cheerful and happy after he has eaten or napped, so it has been fun seeing his personality come out!  He does the army crawl and rocks back and forth on all fours!  He loves being outside....so I think this summer will be fun!  We'll be walking down to the park every day, I bet!  Still no teeth!  Mya just adores him!  I'm waiting for that to change at some point, but for now, she just absolutely loves him and shown no signs of jealousy yet!  I guess she's the nurturing big sister!  I don't know what I would have done without her and Abby from across the street while Jim was gone for those 10 days.  Not to mention the help from Mom and Cherie at the end of the week.

He chokes on his saliva a lot now!  It's a bummer because it wakes him up sometimes.  Maybe when his teeth come in this will change.  We will see!!!!

Mason began sitting up by himself at 6 months.  He eats 2 containers of baby food and a 7 oz. bottle, alternating, about every 2 to 3 hours.  He scoots and rolls a lot, but isn't crawling (thank goodness!!).  He's very grabby!  He is "talking" a lot more now, babbling, and saying things that sound like dada and mama!  I bought him some onesie outfits a couple weeks ago that were 18 month sizes!!!  I think he wears a size 4 shoe already!  My wrists hurt from lifting him...he is soooo heavy!!!!  But, what a happy guy!  Aside from his sudden decision to start waking up again at night, sometimes eating, sometimes, not, he really is cheerful.  He loves interaction with people, especially sissy!!!

I gave Mason baby food! Yesterday he ate a whole container of bananas!!

Mason is so very close to rolling over!  I'm guessing it will be any day now?!!  His sleeping patterns are getting more regular, but he still wakes up during the night about 4 times a week to eat.  He probably doesn't need to eat, since the other 3 days he sleeps right through the night, so maybe when he starts cereal in a couple weeks, that will change.

We have ventured out a lot lately, trying to stay active in this cold weather!!  Today we went to the mall so Mya could play in the play area.  She wanted to go into the Disney Store, and I practically had to physically pull her out of it!!!  Mason was asleep during the whole outing.  Since Mya hasn't been taking naps for a year now, it is nice to have Mason sleep Noon-5:00 like he does...it makes it a little easier on me!!  However, it feels like Mya has become more high-maintenance lately.  Maybe she's just craving attention, who knows.  I started working for the church about 10 hours a week, and I love the flexibility.  I've actually been helping for the past 3 years, so I'm not doing anything differently...I'm just getting paid for it now!!  I tote Mason into the office with me when Mya is at school, and sometimes I take both of them.  I also am able to do a lot from home, here and there.  Jim has been working soooo much.  He often gets home at 7:00 or even almost 9:00 like last night.  It makes for a very long day for me (and him too!!), and I'm looking forward to this changing soon.  I miss him!!

OK, I don't really enjoy jornaling, so I'm ending this now!!

We still don't have a baby book for Mason, so we're going to use this blog to document some of his "firsts"!!
Week of Christmas:  Began smiling a lot!  Loves to sleep in the lion winter outfit from Grandma & Grandpa.  He's awake most mornings, takes a long afternoon nap, is awake in the evening, and sleeps on and off throughout the night (still needs to eat at least once per night).  Discovered his hands!!  On 12/29, Daddy had to drive him around the neighborhood because he was soooo fussy!!!

The painting is done!

Now we just have to set up the crib and bring in the furniture!!  Also, we have letters that spell out Mason's name to hang up.  Aside from that and the rug, we probably won't do much more "decorating!"

Getting the Nursery Ready!

Daddy has been working hard painting Mason's room.  He had to paint over Mommy's pink & silver stripes in the room that used to be her "makeup room"!!!  We still have to add some horizontal stripes around the walls, but the base coat of blue is done!

Here is a daytime picture...the color turned a little bolder once it dried:
